Wienerlied Festival inspires with tradition and new sounds!
The most renowned Wienerlied Festival, Wean Hean, opened with a solemn anniversary event in the house of the Chamber of Labor, which attracted numerous music lovers to the capital. Kleine Zeitung reports that the cultural councilor Veronica Kaup-Hasler in her opening words emphasized. In addition, she encouraged the audience to participate in the upcoming elections.
The festival offered a variety of performances that reflected the wide range of the Viennese song. The audience was included in a singing together with the traditional song "Veronika, the Lenz is there", in which Kaup-Hasler actively took part. Zotti, the chairman of the folk song, emphasized that some lines of text of the Viennese song could no longer be sung without hesitation.
Various program and exciting appearances
The varied program took place on three stages and included appearances by the Kalksburg college, which presented various traditional instruments such as the cough harmonica, concedragitar and the singing saw. The Wiener Blond group also appeared in the trio and combined modern texts with traditional music. Seinger & Maierhofer presented their new album and showed that the Wienerlied is also important beyond Semmering. Hannah Rehrl delighted the audience with a project of students.
A highlight of the festival will be the appearance of Agnes Palmisano, which will appear on May 18 with guitarist Daniel Fuchsberger in the Waidäcker shelter. Palmisano, who is considered the master of the Dudeln, recently released a new CD, on which she presented herself as "Dudel Diva". This CD comprises 13 titles that contain various duds and coloratura Dudler from three centuries and strengthens the cultural heritage of the Viennese song, which is on the UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage.
The art of the Dudeln
Dowel, a singing technique that is closely connected to the Viennese song, is also very popular. The mixture of classic beautiful singing and Alpine yodeling offers a strong emotional expression that is characteristic of Viennese music. Palmisano explains that the undulating begins where the words end and contains specially used syllables and vowels. This technology originated at the beginning of the 19th century and developed from Alpine songs that came to the city through craftsmen, as well as the excessive representations of Tyrolean music on the stages of Vienna.
The Viennese Dudler, who often appear in this year and on theater stages, use instruments such as clarinets and guitars to accompany musical accompaniment. In the 20th century, Düdeln mainly took place within the Wienerlied tradition of Heurigerkultur, with the last great interpreter, Trude Mally, died in 2009. Agnes Palmisano, on the other hand, is actively committed to continuing and spreading this art form by giving her knowledge to young singers at the music and art of private university since 2020. Unesco emphasizes the meaning of the sound for the Viennese vocal culture and documents its evolutionary history.
The festival closes with an "anniversary rally" that offers dance music and a finale in the Liebharstaler Bockkeller. These events are of great importance for the maintenance and passing on of the cultural heritage of the Viennese song, which will remain alive in the coming years.
