participation of the population in climate protection
climate protection is increasingly recognized as a central challenge for the preservation of the planet. According to the [Citizens' Participation Network] (https://www.netzwerk-buergerbetiligung.de/themen-dis course/klimaschutz-und-nachtherke/), effective climate protection cannot be achieved without the participation of the population. This view is also reflected in the approaches of the Viennese climate team, which actively involves the citizens into decision -making processes. The initiative shows that good climate policy must be associated with participatory processes in order to be effective.
With regard to the previous results of 2022 and 2023, it can be seen that over 1,000 ideas were submitted annually in the pilot years in the districts of Margareten, Simmering, Ottakring, Mariahilf, Floridsdorf and Währing. In 2022, a total of 19 and 34 projects for implementation were recommended in 2022. From autumn 2025, the Viennese climate team will also start in the districts of Josefstadt and Penzing.
sustainability in everyday life
The topics that flow into the Viennese climatic team are diverse. This includes, among other things, climate -friendly mobility, sustainable everyday life, the use of renewable energies and the design of a climate step in urban space. All ideas providers receive feedback on their suggestions, which further consolidates the participation concept.
With the upcoming conclusion of the 2024/25 project and the ideas selected from the citizens of juries, Vienna is not only positioned as a pioneer in climate policy, but also as a model for other cities with regard to citizen participation in climate protection. These measures are crucial in order to meet the requirements for a livable environment for future generations.
