Vienna municipal council: 100 new faces and exciting majority relationships!
Wien, Österreich - On June 10, 2025, the constituent meeting of the Vienna municipal council took place. The 100 chosen municipalities were praised on this solemn occasion. These MPs are also members of the state parliament, which further reinforces the political commitment in the city. The election result of the municipal council and state parliament election of April 27, 2025 shows an interesting political landscape in Vienna.
The results of the election have failed as follows: The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) won most of the mandates with a total of 43. The Freedom Party (FPÖ) followed with 22 mandates, the Greens with 15 as well as the Neos and the ÖVP, each received 10 mandates. The municipal council is composed as follows:
- SPÖ: 43 MPs
- FPÖ: 22 MPs
- Greens: 15 MPs
- neos: 10 MPs
- ÖVP: 10 MPs

The Wiener City Election Authority has published the end result, which also lists the votes of the parties in the individual districts. The SPÖ was the strongest party in all Viennese districts. For example, the SPÖ received 43.6 % in Brigittenau and 41.0 % in the Donaustadt. The dominance of the SPÖ runs through all 23 districts of Vienna, which underlines the attraction of this party in the city.
It is exciting that in these elections the constituencies were merged into the constituency of north-west. A total of 100 mandates were awarded, with a turnout of 62.74 %, which is somewhat below the previous turnout of 65.27 % in 2020. In the current election, 696,345 Viennese took part in the urns.
The meter results
If you look at the preliminary results published on April 29, 2025, it can be seen that the SPÖ received 39.38 % of the votes with 268,514 votes. The FPÖ followed at 20.35 %, while the Greens reached 14.52 %. The NEOs were able to combine 10 % of the votes, the ÖVP only 9.65 %. Parties such as the KPÖ, Team HC Strache and Söz remained without mandates. The detailed results are available at [wien.gv.at/wahlen.
