Raid on FPÖ employees: suspicion of left-wing extremist groups
in Vienna has occurred to an incident that causes a stir in the political circles. An employee of the FPÖ Federal Councilor Christoph Steiner was attacked and robbed at home on the election evening. These events took place in direct connection with the strong performance of the FPÖ in the National Council election.
According to the FPÖ, it was reported that the robbery could possibly be attributed to left -wing extremists. However, the Viennese police commented little about "sensitive personal facts", which understandably raises questions. The attacks happened immediately after the election, while the perpetrator remained unknown and the political backgrounds have not yet been fully clarified.
The attack in detail
The following night the FPÖ reported several violent incidents against their members and sympathizers. In the attack in front of Steinar’s apartment, the employee was not injured, but his mobile phone and a laptop were stolen, which is a clear material loss.In an interview, the FPÖ confirmed that during the robbery of the perpetrators who suggest a location in the left -wing spectrum. In addition, the celebration of activists was disturbed at the FPÖ election party in the Alsergrund, who carried out verbally and physically aggressive actions against the party guests. An incident in which an FPÖ employee was showered by an Antifa activist with a drink is only one of many violent arguments that took place during the celebration.
As the FPÖ was able to observe, the sanitary facilities of the restaurant where the celebration took place were willfully damaged. There were messages on the walls of the toilets that express a clear aggressive stance against the FPÖ, including sentences such as "The Antifa is everywhere!" and "FPÖ die".
Another incident concerned the FPÖ general secretary Michael Schledlitz, who wanted to be physically attacked during the celebration of opponents. According to the FPÖ, the police were able to prevent worse things by quick intervention, but the mood is low. The FPÖ was concerned about the applied violence against its supporters and members, which according to FPÖ general secretary Christian Hafenecker was not acceptable.
The incidents throw shadows on the election evening and clearly show that political tensions in the city are still high. This also has an impact on the security situation of the public events and the opportunity to celebrate political successes carefree.
