Tragic room fire in Simmering: body and injured discovered
In the night of Wednesday, October 23, there was a serious incident in Strindberggasse in Simmering, where the fire brigade was called for a fire. First, Vienna had intervened in the relevant place due to a noted gas smell. During the mission, the team found increased carbon monoxide values, which led to the alarm of the fire brigade.
The emergency services arrived around 1:15 a.m. and quickly discovered that the smell of gas was not the only concern. When examining the house, which contains a total of 19 apartments, the fire protection officers felt a smell of fire and found a heated apartment door. This was opened by force, and inside a smoldering fire, which was luckily quickly deleted with a bucket injection.
Investigations run
This extinguishing was followed by a shocking discovery: in the fire apartment, the firefighters came across a body. So far it is still unclear who the person is, but according to the police, it could be the 79-year-old resident. The exact circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated by the fire group of the Vienna State Criminal Police Office. The police exclude arson.
The fire inserts in residential buildings are always associated with high risk, especially if there is suspicion of toxic gases. The situation was brought under control quickly and effectively, but the concern for the victims and their relatives remains.
