Jakober's Klangwelten: A hypnotic journey through the music

The Vienna Modern Festival not only offers the opportunity to experience the profound compositions of contemporary music, but also to be fascinated by the unique sound worlds that create artists like Peter Jakober. His latest works invite the audience to immerse themselves in an intensive acoustic experience that is far from the classic Schönberg aesthetics, which many might expect.

Jakober uses a surprising combination of elements to create a musical landscape. A piano, a floor lamp and noises are used in his current order work. These ingredients combine into an avant -garde sound experience that captivates the listener. Pianist Clara Sophia Murnig, who plays a role with Lukas Froschauer, who was responsible for the sound director, plays a role. Their monotonous rhythms and repeating chords are reminiscent of the structure of the minimal music, but Jakober goes far beyond these limits.

a hypnotic sound game

The music unfolds in a area of tension between familiar and unknown sounds. Murnig’s steady piano game is accompanied by apparently random noises that are reminiscent of machines. These layers of sounds mix into haunting sound floods that play around the audience like a wave. The high intensity and the interplay of light and darkness, which also enrich the experience of this music, create an atmospheric interplay that can be described as remarkable.

In the course of the piece, the light of the lamp is hidden, and the room turns so that the music comes to the fore. These changes from darkness and light can be interpreted as a metaphor for the tides of sound and silence, with time becoming music itself. The 45 minutes in which the audience immerse yourself in this sound room, pass as if in a flash. If, after all, gentle tones signal the end of this extraordinary experience, the audience is enthusiastic and donates applause for a memorable performance.

Jakobs Modern is not only a tribute to the versatility of sounds, but also an invitation to blow up the limits of listening to music and get involved in the experience - a fascinating insight into the future of contemporary music that is worth experiencing.
