Arrest according to Schüussen at Yppenplatz: 21-year-old in custody
In a worrying incident in mid-July, in which shots fell at the Yppenplatz in Vienna-Ottakring and two people were seriously injured, the police have now arrested a suspect. According to the authorities, it is a 21-year-old Libyer who was caught two days ago by investigators from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). The man who has so far made no statements about the act has already been brought to a prison.
The suspect's arrest took place on Monday in Vienna Mariahilf and was announced by police spokeswoman Barbara Gass. Details on the allegations claimed against the Libyan have not yet been published because the investigation is still underway. The public prosecutor has applied for a custody, but the hearing is still pending.
The incident at Yppenplatz
On July 14th there was a dispute among several men in the said place, which were apparently involved in the drug milieu. In this dispute, shots, presumably from a pistol, dropped off. An 18-year-old Syrian and a 22-year-old man without a citizen suffered serious injuries. Both were hit “down from the hip”, which illustrates the drama of the incident. Despite an immediate search, the shooters initially remained undetected.
In the immediate vicinity of the crime scene, the police also made another remarkable find. A backpack was discovered that contained an initially unknown amount of drugs. Later it turned out that there was packed marijuana, which was obviously ready for sale. This underpins the suspicion that the armed discussion is due to conflicts within the drug scene, which further fueled the investigation.
The State Police Directorate has emphasized that the investigations against possible further suspects continue to run. The situation remains tense and it remains to be seen which new knowledge will reach the public through the ongoing investigation.
