In the festive Advent season, Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna is again the setting for a pre -Christmas ritual. In order to enable the citizens to have a relaxed and safe shopping experience, cars, bicycles and e-scooters are excluded from this popular shopping mile on Saturdays before Christmas, namely November 30th, 14th and 21st. This measure ensures that people can get gifts in peace and enjoy the atmosphere of the festive pre -Christmas period.

The blocking affects the section between the grain market/museumsplatz and Stumpergasse/Kaiserstrasse. During the days mentioned, the existing encounter zones, charging zones and residential streets are temporarily lifted. If you still have to get through the Inner Mariahilfer Straße by car, you only have the opportunity to do this via Stumpergasse and Kaiserstrasse.

The changes also influence local public transport. Bus line 13a will not run between Neubaugasse and Burggasse during the blocking times from 9 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Instead, the bus service offers a diversion and only runs between Alser Strasse/Skodagasse and Burggasse as well as between the main train station and Neubaugasse.

One -way streets such as Andreasgasse, Zieglergasse, Schottenfeldgasse and Webgasse are either lifted or converted into dead ends to adapt the flow of traffic in the area. The Stiftgasse and Richtergasse are also affected by these changes. Despite the restrictions, access to the parking garages within the affected street areas remains. These are characterized by significant signs to offer the road users orientation.

With these measures, the city of Vienna goes one step further to not only ensure the safety of pedestrians and shopping, but also to promote the festive mood during the Advent season. The preparations for the Advent season are in full swing, and Mariahilfer Straße will present itself again in a very special light.
