New Night S-Bahn S80: Improved mobility for Vienna from December
From December 15, the mobility offer in Vienna will be improved by a significant expansion of the S80 line, which is operated by the ÖBB. This important rail connection between the west and east of the city is now served on weekends and in the nights with a regular 30-minute cycle between Vienna Hütteldorf and Vienna Aspern Nord. This measure aims to better provide travelers in the city and to offer more flexibility in the night.
The new offer complements the existing night connections of buses and trains and ensures that passengers are conveniently connected to the subway system in Vienna. This night-S-Bahn not only offers a smooth connection within the city, but also to the night connections in the adjacent regions, for example to Mödling and Baden.
additional early trains and improvements in rush hour
In addition to the new night operation, the S80 timetable is expanded by two earlier trains between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern North. This measure is specially tailored to the needs of students and commuters who need more efficient travel in the morning. With these changes, a dense network is created together with the lines REX8 and R81, which offers almost a subway-like clock. The updated timetables are already available in the "Vor-Anachb" app, on the website anachb.vor.at and in the ÖBB Scotty app.
The new connections and timetable changes are an important relief for the strongly frequented area between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern Nord. Peter Hanke, city council for finance, business, digitization and international, emphasizes: "With this capacity expansion we relieve the route section, which is very frequented by passengers." This means not only an improvement in the offer for commuters, but also an increased traffic safety and convenience, especially in the late hours.
- Introduction of a new night-S-Bahn every 30 minutes on weekends and in the nights before public holidays.
- optimized connections to the night connections in Vienna Meidling (direction Mödling) and to Badner Bahn (towards Baden).
- Two additional early trains on working days between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern North.
- Improvement of traffic services in the morning vocational and school traffic.
By promoting the S80 decisive connections in the city and also connecting to important points such as the main train station, the subway lines and numerous tram and bus lines, urban and regional traffic is optimized. In Vienna Meidling, Vienna Central Station and other stops, passengers can seamlessly switch to various other means of transport, which makes traveling in the city considerably easier.
The extensions of the S80 are not only a short -term advantage, but also offer a look at future improvements in night traffic. Further developments in this area are being planned for autumn 2025, whereby the traffic planning teams are working intensively on the details. More on www.vienna.at .
