Festive Illumination: Christmas tree on Rathausplatz takes Christmas magic to Vienna!
A special mood is above the Vienna Rathausplatz, where preparations for the Christmas season were in full swing on Friday morning. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) traditionally illuminate the large Christmas tree, which comes from Rastenfeld in the Waldviertel this year-a small community with around 1,600 inhabitants. This festive illumination took place on Saturday evening and attracted numerous visitors.
The tree, which is impressive 34 meters high and has already counted an impressive 80 years, was carefully prepared. The city gardeners thoroughly checked the branches, repaired bare spots and strengthened some branches. Not only the lights were increased on 2,000 LED lamps for the first time this season, but the spruce was also equipped with 1,000 Christmas tree balls, which give it a splendid look.
