Caution, Vienna: Fraudsters aim at older city dwellers
In Vienna, the police have uncovered an alarming fraud that has been affected by the summer of 2023 in particular. Two women are suspected of having committed a number of fraud in the districts of Wieden, Margareten and Mariahilf. They addressed those affected on the street and deceptive an emergency situation to obtain money.
The fraudsters stated that they needed money for their children or to cover their rental costs. In other cases, they claimed to need financial support for medical treatment. They often offered the victims alleged help in the household in order to get their telephone numbers. This meant that they could continue to press the elderly to get money or jewelry.
