Creative photography: winner of the competition Look - listen - help on the Wieden and in Margareten
In the heart of Vienna, the parish of the Good News recently successfully held the photo competition “Look – listen – help” to draw attention to the many facets of the need and the commitment in the Wieden and Margareten districts. The initiative, which was launched in partnership with district councils and MeinBezirk, encouraged residents to submit impressive snapshots that reflected personal experiences and experiences on the topic.
The jury has now chosen the winners with a total of 40 moving images that present a wide range of hardship and the associated relief efforts. What is particularly noteworthy is that the evaluation was not based exclusively on the image quality, but rather the message and emotional impressions of the photos were in the foreground.
Award ceremony and winner photos
The winning image comes from Barbara Trobej, who captures an emotional moment with her photo “Sharing Warmth”: hands passing a sleeping bag, symbolizing the help that the 'open house' team provides to those in need in the cold months. “We often cannot provide a warm bed, but we make sure that no one is cold,” says Trobej, explaining the important work that has been carried out for five years.
Second place was awarded twice. Emanuel Ullmann's picture “Feines Rot” shows a person dressed in red on a park bench, surrounded by personal belongings in a shopping cart. This makes people think about the lives of many homeless people. Valerie Euler also secured second place with her moving snapshot of a fence on which someone said the words “I’ll die alone in the end anyway!” wrote. This graffiti art highlights the loneliness of many people in society and remains haunting without further explanation.
Fourth place goes to Jutta Niederstätter, who sensitively captures the atmosphere in the “Open Living Room”. Her picture shows two people who are playful with each other and interact with a wink and childlike curiosity. “In our hectic everyday lives, we often lose sight of each other,” says Niederstätter.
Popularity with the community
The parish's vote produced other favorites. Agnes Pfeffer impressed with her picture “Just be with each other,” which visually captures the calming feeling of closeness and support. Willi Schlager took a thoughtful snapshot of a beggar in front of a jewelry store that illustrates the gap between poverty and wealth.
The prizes for the winners are diverse. In addition to presenting their works in a photo gallery on MeinBezirk.at, each winner received a voucher for the “Die goldene Kugel” shop and a gastro voucher for the “Zum Lieben Augustin” restaurant. In addition, some winners can look forward to personal tours of St. Charles Church and tickets to a Vivaldi concert.
This photo competition not only highlights the challenges and offers of help in Wieden and Margareten, but also promotes awareness of the need for empathy and support within the community. Further information and the complete collection of submissions can be found at MeinBezirk.at.
