Johann Strauss Museum: A multimedia trip through the waltz life

On Thursday, the new Johann Strauss Museum in Vienna opened its doors compared to the section. The multimedia permanent exhibition "Johann Strauss - New Dimensions" uses the latest technology to bring visitors closer to the life and work of the famous composer. The opening took place at a press event in which Mayor Michael Ludwig also took part.

The exhibition is characterized by an innovative concept that makes visitor immersed in the world of the waltz king. A central component is a unique "3D headphone sound system" that is used for the first time in an Austrian exhibition. The interactive tour extends over two floors and contains numerous media stations, including videos and portraits that give an insight into Strauss' life.

an experience in seven files

On an area of around 900 square meters, the life of Johann Strauss' is presented in seven files. It started in 1825 when his father, a celebrated violinist who shaped Viennese dance scenes. The second act addresses the political upheavals of 1848, while in the third act of Strauss' son with his international career. The fourth act illuminates the fame, which he achieved with his famous waltz "on the beautiful blue Danube" before the fifth act of his passion for operettas is dedicated. The sixth act then deals with his death in 1899.

The seventh act is an impressive, immersive room with a height of 5.50 meters, which visually presents the most important stations in the life of the composer as the highlight. The walls serve as projection surfaces for fascinating video installations that tell the stories behind Strauss' works.

A special highlight enables visitors to become creative. On a special composer, guests have the opportunity to design pieces themselves. Mayor Ludwig tested his musical skills and was able to proudly take his own composition home.

a festival for the Viennese and a magnet for tourists

Those responsible for the exhibition not only want to offer the Viennese an unforgettable experience, but also attract international visitors. Similar to cities that keep famous music museums in honor, Vienna now also lives up to its waltz king in a special way. With a budget of 2.2 million euros, financed by Ostrich Eventagur GmbH, it is shown how much the city of Johann Strauss estimates and appreciates.

Peter Hosek, Managing Director of the Ostrich event agency, emphasizes: "For me as a native, passionate Viennese, Strauss' music is something unique. With this passion we put everything in here to offer the Viennese a unique experience." In addition, there are already considerations to make the exhibition internationally known.

Mayor Ludwig shared his enthusiasm and emphasized the importance of music for Vienna: "Who does not know it, the Pummerin heralds on New Year's Eve and then the Danube Walzer comes." He invites both locals and tourists to become part of this musical journey.
