10 years of traffic museum Remise: Festive opening of the special exhibition
The traffic museum Remise in Vienna, which was previously known as the Vienna tram museum, soon celebrates an important anniversary. Ten years after its reopening under new management and with a fresh concept, a special exhibition is opened, which takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the history and future of mobility in Vienna.
The museum, which is located in Fruethstraße 2, has been committed to Vienna's mobility history since 2014 and now not only shows trams, but also buses, subways and other vehicles. There are interactive station points that invite you to learn more about the city's traffic system, and future -oriented vehicle simulators who round off the experience.
Special exhibition on drivelessness
The new exhibition entitled "From Lashing Loss to Driverless" will be opened on October 5th. This thematic treatment of change in traffic could not be more suitable, since the Viennese trams in 1996 waived ticket supervision and future subway lines, in particular the U5, are to be operated as a driver without drivers. "The exhibition combines the past and future in an impressive way," said museum director Hans Baierl.
Visitors can look forward to 12 thematic islands, which come up with a lot of interesting facts about the Vienna's transport system. While most content comes from your own archives, a few exhibits are supplemented by image material of external sources. One of the special attractions of the exhibition includes the famous Reichsbrückenbus, which fell into the Danube in 1976, and a historic Stock bus.
The opening of the exhibition takes place as part of the long night of the museums, which offers a special opportunity to explore the doors of the traffic museum from 6 p.m. to midnight. In addition to the special exhibition, guests can expect further program highlights during that night. The museum's regular opening scheme extends from Wednesday to Sunday, with broad opening times that enable easy planning for visitors.
Access to ticket information and other details about the exhibition is available via the website of the Verkehrsmuseum, which can be found at Wienerlinien.at/verkehrmuseum-Remise. This anniversary is not only a look into the past, but also an exciting gateway to the future developments in urban mobility.
For those interested, there are also other exciting events, such as the women's festival of the Vienna Youth Center "Come2gether" and the arrival of the French traditional "Paul" bakery in Vienna, which will cause a stir in the coming weeks.
