ÖVP calls for dog zone in the Else-Federn-Park conflict with residents

In the Ottakring district of Vienna, there is currently a heated debate about the planned establishment of a dog zone in the Else-Federn-Park. The application was made by ÖVP Ottakring and provides for reducing part of the existing children's play area to make room for the dog zone. This triggered concern with the residents with children.

The specific application of the ÖVP, dated February 26, 2024, argues with a lack of expiry areas for the approximately 2,000 dogs in the region. On the other hand, residents say that a dog zone right next to a playground could be potentially dangerous for the children. Many residents believe that there are already enough dog zones in the area that offer the dogs a safe run.

statement by district chief

Stefanie Lamp, the district leader of Vienna-Ottakring (SPÖ), said via Vienna.at that the responsible magistrate's service had examined the application. The potential potential for conflict was pointed out. Due to the large number of negative letters and the current Situation, the district council currently sees no realistic chance of implementing the plan. This means that the residents have at least successfully protested the creation of the dog zone.

There are only two designated dog zones in Vienna-Ottakring, which is relatively little compared to other districts. However, the Else-Federn-Park is in the immediate vicinity of Vienna-Hernals, where additional dog zones are created for a dog run. Residents argue that the creation of another dog zone is therefore unnecessary.

The situation remains tense, and the affected residents are more concerned with their right to have their children play in a safe environment. For more Details on this topic, see the report on www.vienna.at .
