Second ATM explosion in Vienna-Floridsdorf within 24 hours
In Vienna-Floridsdorf there was a second incident in quick succession during the night: an ATM was blown up. This incident occurred within just 24 hours of the first act of demolition. The first ATM to be blown up was at a bank branch on Brünner Street.
This time, however, the explosion occurred in a shopping center, more precisely in Trillergasse, around 2:50 a.m. Here too, the perpetrators used explosives to put their plan into action and caused great chaos with the explosion.
The perpetrators and the investigation
The police are currently looking for three unknown men who are considered suspects in this case. After the explosion, they fled in an unknown direction, which is why the officials have not yet received any concrete information. According to police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger, a connection between the two explosions is “probable”, which suggests an organized crime method.
It is still unclear how much damage was caused and how much money the perpetrators stole in their plan if they were successful in their plan. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office has started the investigation and is urgently looking for witnesses. Anyone who has information about the perpetrators' escape or who saw them suspiciously is asked to come forward.
Information can be sent to the Vienna State Criminal Police Office by telephone at 01-31310-33800, even anonymously. The pressure on search operations is increasing as such incidents become more frequent, increasing the concerns of local residents and raising questions about how the security situation in the region is developing.
