Radlobby calls for urgent measures for foot and cycling at the north bridge

The planned renovation of the north bridge will result in a significant change in traffic. Due to the upcoming work, the bridge is closed for a period of five years. This has already triggered concern and criticism, especially from the cycling lobby, which indicates the negative effects of this decision.

Roland Romano, spokesman for the Radlobby Vienna, expressed his displeasure with current developments in a statement. He explained: "Now revenge that the footpaths on the north bridge were dismantled in favor of car lanes and north of the north bridge was never built a dedicated Danube crossing for foot and bike traffic."

criticism of transport policy

The situation is particularly worrying because the Steinitzsteg is of great importance for foot and bike traffic. Romano demands a solution that ensures that environmentally friendly mobility has not been disadvantaged for years, while motorized modes of transport continue to be preferred. This problem is reinforced by the insufficient infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, which enables a safe crossing of the Danube area.

In view of the planned renovation measures, it is unclear how traffic flows in the region will develop. The deterioration of the conditions for cycling and foot traffic is already perceived as a consequence of this decision, which in the long run could have profound effects on mobility in Vienna.
