Floridsdorf is investing in cycle paths: New connections planned by 2025

cycling is becoming increasingly popular in Floridsdorf. An exciting development is imminent: In 2025, a total of 1.3 kilometers of new cycle paths are to be built on Leopoldauer Straße. This measure is part of a comprehensive cycle path offensive that aims to significantly improve the wheel infrastructure throughout the 21st district.

Mobility City Councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) announced that the cycling infrastructure will be expanded by a total of 6.6 kilometers in the main cycle path network by the end of 2025. This initiative shows how serious the city means promoting bicycle traffic, and the planning for the years after the years is already in full swing.

Palks implementation of the cycle paths

The construction of the cycle paths in Leopoldauer Straße takes place in two phases. First, the section between Angerer Straße and Angyalföldstrasse is tackled. Then the path continues to the Heinrich-von-Buol-Gasse. This new network of trails enables cyclists to drive from Leopoldauer Straße via Angerer Strasse and Brünner Straße to Floridsdorfer Hauptstraße.

Currently, cycle paths on Angerer Straße are already being completed from Leopoldauer Straße to Brünner Straße. These new island solutions will be connected to the bike paths in Leopoldauer Straße in 2025, which significantly improves the safety and lightness of cycling in this area.

urgent need for action

District head Georg Papai (SPÖ) emphasizes the importance of the project. The redesigns on Leopoldauer Straße represent him a highlight on the cycle path offensive, especially because of the high demand and the numerous feedback from the population with regard to the safety distances between motorized and non -motorized road users. In many areas, these distances are often not observed, which makes cycling unsafe.

The city has recognized that other areas of the wheel infrastructure must also be revised. Work is currently taking place on Floridsdorfer Hauptstraße and Prague Straße. These include the routes to the north bridge, while new cycle paths are being built in Sheydgasse to improve the connection to Strebersdorf to the new Danube.

Another important milestone awaits cyclists in 2025 on Autokaderstraße, where a new cycle path is to be created as a connection to the Marchfeld Canal. The planned "Klimahighway" will also cause a sensation, since it should create a continuous bike connection from the Danube field to Lower Austria. The implementation of these ambitious plans is a clear sign that the city is actively committed to promoting cycling and improving the quality of life for cyclists
