U1 failure: important information about restrictions and replacement connections
ARE FARE in the U1 currently ensures considerable restrictions in Vienna's public transport. These dramatic events took place on Tuesday evening, November 19, and led to the U1 temporarily no longer run between the Keplerplatz and Stephansplatz stations. In this phase, train connections are only possible between Oberlaa and Reumannplatz and from Schwedenplatz to Leopoldau.
Extensive work is necessary for the restoration of the company. 50 meters track, 25 thresholds and 400 meters of cable cups and several kilometers of cables have to be renewed. The good news is that according to the latest information, the continuous operation of the U1 should be resumed on Friday, November 29th. Before that, a track measuring car is used to ensure that all tracks are aligned according to the required standards.
replacement measures during work
Until there is a continuous operation on the U1 again, various replacement measures have been set up. This is how line D to Reumannplatz is extended. In addition, it drives between stock exchange and Schwedenbergplatz via Schwedenplatz and Franz-Josefs-Kai to connect the two U1 stations in Schwedenplatz and Reumannplatz. Lines 1 and O are also available as alternatives. In addition, the 13A line was reinforced. The night traffic of the U2Z is no longer at the opera, Karlsplatz, but also to Reumannplatz.
It should be noted that the U4 is also affected. The bridge structure of the Alserbach Bridge will be renewed until December 17, which means that only every second train from Schwedenplatz will go to Heiligenstadt. The U2 has not been spared from these adjustments either: until further notice, it only runs between the Seestadt and Schottentor stations, and the section between Schottentor and Karlsplatz will be put back into operation at the end of 2024.
Information about the U1 station Kagran
Important information is also available for the U1 station Kagran. Up to and including November 28th, Leopoldau is not stopped at this station in the direction of travel. In order to achieve this station, passengers have to switch to a train of the opposite direction on Kagraner.
The Viennese lines have provided comprehensive information for the affected routes and stations and recommend that you keep up to date via the respective timetables and replacement connections. Further details on these developments can be found in a report on www.oeastc.at
