Christmas show in Vienna: delicacies and handicrafts for a good cause

The 77th edition of the traditional Christmas show of Caritas Socialis (CS) will take place in Vienna-Alsergrund. This event runs from November 28th to 30th and offers visitors the opportunity to buy various delicacies, such as gingerbread and biscuit variations, as well as handicraft products and household rarities. The proceeds of these celebrations flow into the support of mothers and children in need, especially those who are looked after in the house for mother and child (Muki) of the CS. A special highlight: the Muki is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

The first Muki was founded in Hütteldorferstrasse in 1924 to offer women and their children safe accommodation. After moving to a new location on Linzerstrasse in 1952, it was able to house up to 100 children and 20 women. The goal of the Muki remains unchanged: mothers and their children, who flee in difficult situations or from violent conditions, to offer a protected environment. The support in the form of transitional apartments is an important measure of Caritas Socialis to help the women concerned, to realign their lives and to start a professional future.

support from volunteers

The big Christmas show is the result of months of preparing for volunteers and helpers as well as the members of the CS sisters. Sr. Susanne Krendelsberger, general manager of the CS sister community, emphasizes that the event has now become an integral part of Advent customs for many. She developed into a popular start to the run -up to Christmas and integrates many people who want to support the good cause.

The advisory services of Caritas Socialis offer comprehensive support for people in a wide variety of life situations. This includes social psychological advice and help offers in family conflicts and social challenges. Material support is also provided, for example in the form of clothing or other vital things.

The Christmas show takes place daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in CS Pramergasse 1090 Vienna. Visitors can expect the great selection and the opportunity to do good. Each purchase contributes to the stabilization of the life situation of mothers and children in need, which makes the event all the more significant.
