Stress-free job speed dating: opportunities for young talents in focus

In an innovative measure to promote young talents, a job speed dating recently took place that aimed to significantly reduce the pressure in application situations. The initiative, which is particularly aimed at school leavers, wanted to make the application process more stress -free and accessible. Anna Gailberger, one of the approximately 70 mentors of the "Hands On" project, explains that for many young people this event often represents the first experience in professional life and that they are occasionally nervous. "It is crucial that you have the opportunity to show your potential without the pressure of a traditional interview," says Gailberger.

The mentors gave the young applicants support throughout the process. Together with the HR managers and the applicants, they sat at the table to ensure that everyone could have their say. The motto of the event, "round table - open opportunities", illustrates the inclusive approach that the organizers are pursuing.

preparation and first impressions

In order to maximize the chances of success of the participants, the young people received extensive training in advance. These included application coaching, valuable tips for an appealing curriculum vitae and information about the participating companies. The preparation was considered crucial to present themselves optimally with the employers. The feedback from the youngsters on site was promising: "I survived the first round well. And I am also ready for the next one," noticed a confident applicant, even if she admitted to be a bit nervous.

The company representatives also expressed themselves positively about the event. Rewe's “People & Culture” team found that all applicants were very well prepared and had properly brought their résumés with them. "This is no longer a matter of course these days, and we were therefore pleasantly surprised," said a team member. Some participants even left so good impressions that their application documents were forwarded directly to the corporate management.

In the past, experience shows that more than half of the participants received an apprenticeship according to such events. Eva Rosewich reported on this trend and added that some of the approximately 120 applicants could even go home with a "golden ticket" - which means that they were offered a job immediately.

The job speed dating is not only an opportunity for young people to introduce themselves to potential employers, but also a valuable concept to facilitate the transition from school to profession. It remains to be seen to what extent this initiative contributes to the positive development of professional opportunities for young people in the region, especially in view of the challenges that exist in today's working world.
