Water pipe break in favorites: trams stand still!

Water pipe break in favorites: trams stand still!

In the early Wednesday morning, there was a significant water pipe break in the area of the sourceplace in the district of Favorites in Vienna. This disorder has a massive effect on tram operation and affects several lines in public transport. Affected lines are the 11, 6 and O and the replacement line E1, which was redirected due to construction work on the U1. Line 11 was completely stopped due to the situation, while line 6 in both directions between Absberggasse and Neilreichgasse is diverted via the lines O and D. The Line O runs exclusively between Bruno-Marek-Allee and Gudrunstraße, and the replacement line E1 is also only in operation between Quartier Belvedere S and Gudrunstraße.

A rail replacement traffic with buses between Reumannplatz and Otto-Probst-Platz was set up for the affected passengers. Unfortunately, there is currently no foreseeable end of the disorder, which makes the situation more difficult for commuters and travelers in the city. The disorder not only represents an inconvenience, but also raises questions about the stability of the infrastructure.

investments in the water supply

The water pipe break illuminates the challenges that the water supply infrastructure in Vienna faces. The Wiener Wasser (MA 31) department supervises an extensive system of water supply systems, which includes over 3,000 kilometers of pipe network. There are also 330 kilometers of high source lines, 12,500 hydrants, over 100,000 water meters and numerous drinking fountains.

existing investments in the infrastructure are essential to ensure the quality and reliability of the water supply. In addition to the technical aspects, topics such as environmental protection and sustainable management also play a central role. For example, a large part of the water hinge area (675 square kilometers) is managed by the climate, forestry and agricultural business (MA 49) to ensure long-term care ability.

In view of the current disruption and the complexity of the water supply situation, it is obvious that the protection and maintenance of such infrastructure for the quality of life in the city are of great importance. While the affected passengers have to cope on alternative traffic routes, it is to be hoped that the necessary repairs will take place quickly.
