Rewe is building a Mega logistics center: largest investment in Lower Austria history!

REWE is planning a massive investment in Wiener Neudorf, which could change the country's logistics landscape. With an investment volume of 600 million euros, a new state -of -the -art logistics center will be built. This represents the largest private investment in the history of Lower Austria, such as 5min.at reported.

The planned logistics center will replace a 30 -year -old camp and have a capacity of 87,000 pallets - more than twice as much as the current warehouse. Most processes for storing and sorting the goods are almost fully automatically designed, which is intended to increase efficiency by a lower double -digit percentage range.

job stability and energy concept

currently Rewe employs around 4,000 employees in Wiener Neudorf, and the number of jobs should remain stable. In addition, around 200 new jobs are created on average annually. The new system will be built on already sealed soil, and 20 percent of the required energy requirement should be covered by own photovoltaic systems.

A comprehensive logistics concept should minimize the number of truck journeys, which not only increases efficiency, but also contributes to relieving the traffic routes. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner has already called for the expansion of the A2 connection point to avoid possible traffic passes.

economic background

In this context, the NÖ-Süd industrial center is worth mentioning, in which 380 companies are currently located that employ over 12,000 employees. From Wiener Neudorf, Rewe supplies 2,500 branches in the eastern region of Austria. Together with the logistics system, Rewe plans to invest an additional 850 million euros in the renovation of existing markets in the next three years, such as notes.

At the same time, there are progress in the area of logistics technologies in the city of Vienna. The Schreurrr project, which develops a mobile system for recording the occupancy of zones for resting freight traffic, shows the challenges and solutions in urban space. It supports the planning and validation of charging zones, which represents another key to optimizing inner -city logistics, as Logistik2030 executed.

The construction for Rewes new logistics center is planned for 2026, commissioning in 2030. This development will not only increase efficiency, but could also have a positive impact on the regional labor market situation and logistics optimization in the Ostregion.
