Memory of Rudolf Leopold: 100 years of passion for art!

The Leopold Museum in Vienna commemorates the 100th birthday of Rudolf Leopold, the museum founder and passionate art collector, who was born on March 1, 1925 in Vienna. However, he died in 2010, but left an impressive legacy: over 5,200 works of art that formed the basis for the collection of the Leopold Museum. Under the direction of Hans-Peter Wipplinger, the museum, one of the most important in Europe, continues and has attracted around 9 million visitors since its opening in 2001 when the museum was designed especially for the collection, such as ots.at reports .

On March 2, 2025, a matinee will take place in the Leopold Museum on August 14, 2024. Elisabeth Leopold, who turned 99, was not only alongside her husband, but also an important art mediator and curator. She made a significant contribution to making the works of artists from Wiener Moderne, especially Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, internationally known. Her commitment is recognized with great regret because her death is seen as a serious loss for the Austrian art and cultural scene, as the Leopold Museum explained in a message. During her collaboration with Rudolf Leopold, she put together important collections and curated numerous exhibitions that enriched the museum's collection, such as "https://www.leopoldmuseum.org/de/news/1368/nachruf-elisabeth-leopold"> leopoldmuseum.org

The Matinee is accompanied musically with a performance of the famous string quartet by Anton Bruckner and Franz Schubert by the Leopold family. This illustrates the deep connection of the family with the art and the memories of the two pairs of collectors impressively illustrated and the cultural heritage is carried on.
