Election highlights: This is how Vienna's voters decide by the parties!

Wien, Österreich - The Viennese elections on April 27, 2025 show significant differences in the election motifs of the different age groups. According to a survey by the Lazarsfeld Society, which responded 784 voters, the voters of the SPÖ placed particular emphasis on social issues. Important concerns were "Health & Care" and "affordable living". In contrast, the supporters of FPÖ and ÖVP focused heavily on topics such as security, migration and youth crime.

The survey showed that "security and crime" was the most common election motif among FPÖ and ÖVP supporters. Combating youth crime as well as immigration and asylum were also one of the top 3 of the topics mentioned. In particular, the Greens emphasized "affordable living" in their agenda, followed by measures against climate change and the expansion of public transport. The NEOS, on the other hand, had given "health and care" as their main concern.

youthful voters and their priorities

The electorate in Vienna has a total of 213,754 young people and young adults under the age of 30 who were allowed to take part in this election date. An election analysis from Foresight shows that the SPÖ is leading among the under 30s with 34 percent. Markant topics for this age group are primarily climate protection, jobs and education.

  • climate protection: 39 percent
  • workplaces and business: 37 percent
  • Education and school: 36 percent
  • living and renting: 27 percent
  • Security and crime: 14 percent

This information comes from a survey with 283 respondents, which is why they are not representative. In the results of 2020, the voters of the SPÖ were already very pronounced under the age of 30. The Greens were the second strongest force with 27 percent, followed by the Neos with 10 percent, while ÖVP and FPÖ scored 7 and 5 percent.

age differences and gender distribution

clear differences in the election behavior are also shown between the sexes and age groups. Women tend to choose the Greens and the SPÖ, while men tend to support the FPÖ more often. Young women show a particularly high affinity for the Greens, while older men tend to the ÖVP.

In addition, the election analysis shows that older voters, especially beyond 60, tend to the ÖVP and SPÖ. However, the FPÖ achieved the best results for voters aged 35 to 59 years. People without Matura vote for the FPÖ above average, while higher educational qualifications benefit the Greens, Neos and ÖVP.

Satisfaction with the federal government also affects the election decisions. The FPÖ prefers to support dissatisfied citizens. 42 percent of those who negatively assess the development of Austria tend to vote for the FPÖ. These aspects illustrate how strongly the election behavior is influenced by the respective attitudes and social backgrounds.

Overall, the results of the Viennese elections reflect both social and political tensions among the population, which are mainly manifested in the different priorities of the voter groups.
