Literaturhaus Vorarlberg opened: A new meeting point for book lovers!
Hohenems, Österreich - On April 5, 2025, the Vorarlberg literary house was inaugurated with a festive opening in Hohenems, and numerous visitors flocked to the revitalized historical premises of Villa Franziska and Iwan Rosenthal. This opening marks an important moment for the city, which maintains a long connection to the literature. The first coffee house in Vorarlberg was opened here in 1797, and at the end of the 18th century, copies of the Nibelungenlied in the Hohenems Palace found their way to light.
The new literary house is headed by the managing director Frauke Kühn and is intended to address both literary connoisseurs and a wider audience. "A place for everyone" is the leitmotif of the house, which positions itself as a living platform for literary encounters and creative exchange. Today's location was considered in 2017, and the project took its run with funding from the federal, state and city after the process for creating the literary house in 2008 began. Wolfgang Mörth, representative of literature: Vorarlberg, explains that the literary house should serve as a supplement to existing institutions and is not a competition.
Various offers for literary friends
The literary house offers a varied program that includes writing workshops, silent reading parties, poetry slams and live readers. A special attraction is the planned comic exhibition on Kafka and regular literature talks.
The house is accessible during the day and in the evening and allows visitors to browse in book boxes, bring their own books and write independently or together with authors. "Do homework or experience Pen-&-Paper adventure" is also part of the offer that aims to create a creative space for exchange and free thinking.
a place of encounter and creative work
Special features in the literary house are the "Hörinsel" with memories of the Hohenemser to the villa and the "time trip" that introduced guests to the history of the house. Desks can be used to work in the house, and literary picnic baskets are available for a relaxing time in the park. In addition, a schnitzel hunt is offered by Hohenems with Seek & Read cards to explore the city literarily.
The Literaturhaus Vorarlberg was launched under the sponsoring association "Literature.", the close partner of the Vorarlberg Author Association founded in 1982, which represents over 200 members. This association also ensures to promote the visibility of the Vorarlberg literary scene and to strengthen the contact between the literary producers and the audience. Zeitung reports that the Literaturhaus also looks back on the long -standing tradition of Hohenems Literature and wants to play an important role in the region as a place of creativity and inspiring encounters.
