Lech chooses again: Mayor election becomes an exciting head-to-head race!

Lech, Österreich - In the picturesque Lech am Arlberg, turbulent political times have opened a new chapter. After the surprising resignation of the mayor Stefan Jochum, who gave up in November 2021, an exciting head-to-head race around the mayor's office was held on February 6, 2022. In this direct election, Gerhard Lucian from the "List Lech" was only five votes against his competitor Stefan Muxel from the list "Our village". Lucian received 427 votes (50.29 percent) and thus secured the office of mayor, while the turnout was 66.94 percent. According to the reports of Vorarlberg Orf Schloss the election at 12:00 p.m., and the result was announced around 3:00 p.m.

The way to choose and future plans

Stefan Jochum had thrown the towel just a year after his election in autumn 2020, not least because of personal attacks on him and his team. Previously, Vice Mayor Cornelia Rieser led the official business during the vacancy. Gerhard Lucian, who has been active in local politics since 2015, wants to build on the success of the "Lechwelten" with his recovered position. This initiative aims to improve the occupancy of tourist offers throughout the seasons and thus generate additional income for the community, a central challenge in the current debt crisis of the municipality. The district leaves also reported that Lucian does not want to express any fixed coalition plans and that the results of the elections want to leave.

in Lech will compete four lists on Sunday, including the committed group "Together for Tomorrow", who wants to bring a breath of fresh air to local politics. This list plans to focus on tourism in order to meet local needs. The "List of Future" is also committed to more women and transparency in local politics. In the middle of these exciting political developments, it remains to be seen how the new mayor under Gerhard Lucian will develop and which coalitions will form in the future.
