Father Alois Grimm: A face of resistance in the shadow of the Nazi regime
in the heart of Tisis, a small community in the Vorarlberg region, the memory of Father Alois Grimm is kept alive. This remarkable personality was not only a teacher, but also a pastor, who fought for freedom with his beliefs and his unshakable faith. Unfortunately, he paid for this in 1944 with his life. His clear and courageous attitude against National Socialist ideology was a threat to the regime.
Father Grimm was removed by the Gestapo after the early mass in the Antonius chapel on the morning of October 14, 1943. He was aware of the danger that his words brought with him. As the pastor of Feldkirch-Tisis, Stefan Biondi, recalled, Grimm always tried to persuade the young people, whom he supervised to move to critical reflection: "He has repeatedly pointed out that you should think carefully about who you follow." This message arrived with his audience, even if it was never pronounced directly.
the unshakable faith
crucial for the arrest of Father Grimm were probably his fasting sermons in the parish church of St. Nikolaus, in which secret informants were present. Elisabeth Heidinger from the Carl-Lampert-Forum emphasizes the importance of his faith and his commitment: "Father Grimm was basically a thorn in the eye of the regime. Like his fellow brother, the martyr Carl Lampert, who was blessed in 2011, he also raised his voice at a time when people were silent."
Biondi describes Grimm as someone who was aware of his observers but was not intimidated. This testifies to a great responsibility that both theologians took over in a turbulent time. Father Grimm was finally executed on September 11, 1944, a tragic consequence of his refusal to accept the pressure of the regime.
a new book for commemoration
On the honor of his 80th day of death, his big nery published a new book entitled "Forced by no power". This work is devoted to life and teaching by Father Alois Grimm and illuminates its principles and courage in a dark chapter of history.
The story of Father Alois Grimm remains an important memorial against injustice and a contribution to the culture of memory in the Vorarlberg region. Its legacy is not only part of the story, but also inspires future generations to work for truth and justice.
