The journey home: a moving portrait of courage and absurdity

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., a special reading and discussion will take place in the Theater am Saumarkt in Feldkirch. As part of the series "Biography - Explore, remember, invent?" the author Vladimir Vertlib presents his most recent work entitled "Die Diehei Journey". This reading is not only a literary event, but also a way to gain deeper insights into the history and tragic past of the protagonist.

"The journey home" is a moving tribute to Vertlib's mother and at the same time addresses the absurdities of the Soviet regime in the 1950s. The plot follows Lina, a young student from Leningrad, who receives an alarming message during her work service in Kazakhstan: her father is seriously ill. With determination and despair, Lina embarks on a journey that leads her through the vastness of the Soviet Union, accompanied by changing fellow travelers and the challenges of a strict and often absurd system. Will she manage to get to your sick father in time?
