Vernissage of Liddy Scheffknecht: The change of the living room in Dornbirn!
Dornbirn, Österreich - On June 3, 2025, the exhibition "Living Room (Closing)" by Liddy Scheffknecht was opened in the ORF Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg in Dornbirn. Numerous guests and cultural workers were present at the vernissage, including ORF state director Markus Klement and Council of Culture Barbara Schöbi-Fink. Marbod Fritsch, who acted as curator, accompanied the guests through the event.
The impressive installation that Scheffknecht presents is a spacious cardboard installation and designs like an oversized pop-up book. It addresses the change in the living room, which increasingly becomes a relic of the analog past from the family media center. The detailed representation of a classic living room with a sofa, table, chest of drawers and television is additionally emphasized by the unstable character of the object, which can be opened and closed like a pop-up book.

insight into the art installation
The installation is not only an artistic work, but also a comment on the shift in habits and media consumption. The material use of cardboard and paper tape emphasizes the fragility of the objects shown and encourages visitors to think about the influence of digital media on the traditional television experience.
Such installations, such as those of Scheffknecht, are part of a comprehensive trend in art that focuses on three -dimensional, spatial works. This art form has developed since the early 20th century installations, the examples of which come from famous artists such as Piet Mondrian and Kurt Schwitters. Today installations have their place in large group exhibitions, such as the Biennale of Venice and Documenta in Kassel [Wikipedia] (https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/installation_ (art)).
The exhibition by Liddy Scheffknecht can be seen in the ORF regional radio house in Vorarlberg until September 14, 2025. At the end of September, an “Art in the Funkhaus” vernissage with the artist Stefan Kainbacher will take place. Further information on this event can be viewed on the ORF Vorarlberg website Orf Vorarlberg.
For visitors there is a unique opportunity to experience the artistic examination of contemporary topics up close and take a look into the future of the living room.
