The hope of honesty: politicians and their credibility

The hope of honesty: politicians and their credibility

In a recent study by the Institute for Empirical Social Research, it was found that the domestic population relies on their “positive expectations for the future” with only eight percent of the hope of “honesty in politics”. This knowledge may be surprising, since honesty in politics is more in the last place. It is almost like having similar expectations of a lottery echo, the Easter bunny or a federalism reform.

It is therefore all the more remarkable if politicians actually strive for honesty and transparency. At a time when trust in the political class is often shaken, honesty can be an important key to restoring this trust. Politicians who are honest and transparent therefore earn special recognition and support.

The results of this study also lead a light on the expectations and wishes of the population to their political representatives. It shows that the purity of honesty in politics is of great importance and is an important factor for the trust of citizens.
