Post crisis in Bregenz: Customers now have to go directly to the front door!
With the closing of the last "women's stuff" post office in Bregenz, the city faces a serious undersupply of postal services. This closure, which was carried out on April 1, 2025, forces citizens to do their postal transactions directly with the deliverers at the front door in the future. A temporary solution that is considered inadequate and unrealistic by many.
Franz Mähr, the state chairman of the postal union, criticizes this approach sharply and describes the situation as extremely problematic. He reports on internal communication problems if customers are informed by customers about changes instead of the other way round. In addition, a new delivery system was introduced, which should suggest direct contact between customers and deliverers, but which cannot be implemented in practice. So the posters have no way to handle postal transactions, which leads to considerable confusion among the citizens.
overload of the only branch
Currently Bregenz has to rely on a single, operational branch in Seestrasse. However, this is overloaded and also has to deal with a well -known parking problem. In this context, Mähr also criticizes the post partner system, which is considered unstable: "There is a change like underpants," he says. Many of the post partners would have hoped for a good additional business, but this has not occurred.
From May 12th, two new post -partners should start their business, but the names of which have so far been unknown. Mähr expresses skepticism about the suitability of these partners, especially because of the impending parking problem. The union therefore calls for a return to real, self -operated branches that can offer reliable and high -quality service.
customer expectations and challenges
The current situation forces the Bregenz citizens to be dependent on a single branch until mid -May, which is perceived as unreasonable for many. This development is described as alarming by Mähr and he demands a rethink in post office and more political support. "Post is a basic supplier," he emphasizes, indicating how important it is to ensure reliable services for the population.
In the Bregenz Postpartnerstelle 6904 at Mariahilfstraße 45, which opened on April 2, 2025, customers must continue to adapt to the limited services. Letters, packages, post express programs and advertising mail can be abandoned here. The opening times are from Monday to Friday, the branch remains closed at the weekend. An overview of the shipping costs shows that the prices for internal Austrian letters vary and range from € 0.81 to € 1.50.
In addition, there are no central tax options in the region, such as the land delivery boxes, which are intended to simplify delivery at certain addresses. These external house letter plants are set up in central areas and are designed for central delivery - a measure that would have been of great benefit in the current situation for Bregenz to improve service supply and avoid bottlenecks.
