From football star to extreme athlete: André Schürrles new adventure
André Schürrle, the soccer -historical hero of the German national team, remains active in sports even after his active career and is enthusiastic about extreme sports. The native of Ludwigshafen, who played unforgettable in Brazil's World Cup final in 2014, tested his courage and endurance in new challenges. After his resignation in July 2020, he seems to be obsessed with expanding his limits in extreme sports.
Although his name is closely linked to the world championship title, Schürrle now has completely different goals: he has discovered his passion for mountaineering. He is not afraid to master even more extreme conditions, even in coldest temperatures and snow. He regularly shares his adventure stories on his Instagram profile, where he follows more than 5.2 million followers. "The heavier the story ... the more epic the hero," is one of his motto.
The challenge of 'everesting'
One of the most outstanding challenges that Schürrle faced was the 'Everesting' in Bludenz, Austria in June 2024. Of course, this is not an uncomplicated hike. The participants try to reach the total height of Mount Everest, 8,848 meters of altitude, on a certain route or route as a whole by taking them several times. Schürrle coped with 17 rounds of 3.8 kilometers with 530 meters of altitude - a huge challenge!
With a slope between ten and twenty percent, he started his adventure in the early morning to get close to the goal. Despite enormous exhaustion after 14 rounds, which brought him to the limits of his performance, he did not give up and finally reached the finish line after 21 hours, 42 minutes and 35 seconds. This extraordinary performance shows not only its physical, but also its mental strength.
The future in extreme sports
Not enough with the 'Everesting' - Schürrle has even larger ambitions. In an interview with the magazine "FitBook", he expressed the desire to possibly complete an ultra marathon that leads through the most extreme regions, be it through mountains or deserts. "There is certainly still a lot to try out," said the former football professional, which underlines his tireless way of discovering. While he is now defeating the mountains, he looks back on an impressive career in football in which he played for well -known clubs and the national team.
In his time in the Bundesliga, Schürrle scored 51 goals in 207 games and won the Premier League twice and with the Chelsea FC. His life path, which began on November 6, 1990, shows the evolution of an athlete - from a celebrated footballer to an adventurer in the Alps. This transformation stimulates thinking how diverse the ways can be, the athletes strike after resignation.
