Traffic revolution in Guntramsdorf: Less noise, faster to work!

Guntramsdorf, Österreich - On June 26, 2025, an important infrastructure project will be launched in Guntramsdorf, which affects the connection of the Ecoplus connecting train in the NÖ-Süd industrial center with the Westbahn line (WLB). The gap closure is intended to be an important relief for the residents who suffer from the through traffic of two freight trains per day to the Frankstahl tube and steel retail society. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasizes that this measure not only reduces noise pollution, but will also promote environmentally friendly rail transports.

A central element of the project is the creation of an alternative until September 2025, which will avoid the previous detour of 15 kilometers per train. State Councilor of Transport Udo Landbauer emphasizes that after 20 years of negotiations, a solution has finally been found that should also benefit the commuters - the change at the Traiskirchen train station will be no longer applicable, which saves time.

important initiatives and measures

The project also includes the barrier -free conversion of the stations and the use of barrier -free tensile material. Mayor Robert Weber and the managing director of Ecoplus, Helmut Miernicki, emphasize the importance of this new rail connection for Guntramsdorf and the companies in the IZ Lower Austria. Frankstahl sees an improved connection an opportunity for your own business and the economic development of the region.

This project is financed by the Federal Ministry of Climate Protection and the federal government supports the need to expand the transport infrastructure in order to promote economic growth and increasing prosperity. This happens parallel to the need to minimize the noise pollution caused by rail traffic. According to Federal Environment Agency, rail traffic in Germany is an important source of noise that affects over a third of the population. Special noise areas can be found in metropolitan areas.

challenges and solutions

The rail noise reduction is a challenge, especially in view of the economic growth and the increasing mobility needs. The Eisenbahn-Bundesamt emphasizes the importance of noise protection measures and the need to reduce noise loads despite increasing traffic. The noise protection regulations that have existed since 2017 include, for example, a ban on loud freight cars.

The existing monitoring for rail noise pollution as well as active and passive soundproofing measures are among the instruments that should help to reduce noise loads. The aim is to achieve an improvement in the quality of life in places with considerable noise pollution such as Guntramsdorf through targeted measures. The gap in the IZ NÖ-Süd is therefore not only perceived as a logistical improvement, but also as a step towards a more livable environment.
