Vienna, Österreich - The Austrian comic artist Ulli Lust was awarded the German Subject Book Prize on June 17, 2025. She received this honor for her work "The woman as a person. At the beginning of history", which was published by the Reproduct Verlag. In a solemn award ceremony, which took place in the imposing Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, a prize money of 25,000 euros was presented. The jury praised the innovative representation of the role of women in human history.
The Sachcomic of Lust focuses on the beginnings of mankind and illuminates the influence of women in times of hunters and collectors. ulli lust was selected from a total of 234 submitted titles, which were spotted by a seven -member jury. The members of the jury include specialists from different areas, including Michael Hagner from ETH Zurich and the science journalist Manuela Lenzen. In the nomination list, other remarkable titles such as "Digital Colonialism" by Ingo Dachwitz & Sven Hilbig and "The Return of War" by Franz-Stefan Gady were also found, which also deal with socially relevant topics. Each of the other nominations was awarded 2,500 euros.
The German Subject Book Prize is awarded by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion of the Börsenverein of the German Book Trade and aims to award outstanding non -fiction books in the original German -language edition.
