From the seeds to food: potato project of the elementary school Holzgau

In the small community of Holzgau, everything was all about the potato this year, and the students of the elementary school were able to learn up close how this important tuber is grown and harvested. In spring, Norbert Eidenhammer initiated an exciting project that made a practical learning process from an excursion. The children put potatoes together with him in an adjacent field. This campaign not only promoted the understanding of food, but also aroused interest in agriculture.

In autumn, the students really enjoyed their hard work. Equipped with rubber boots, shovels and buckets, they gathered to get the harvest. After a brief introduction to Eidenhammer, it went to the "happy digging". In groups, the children, full of zeal and anticipation, dug for the golden tubers. The joy of the size and quality of the potatoes was clearly visible in their smiling faces.

The week before the autumn holidays was a real festival for the potato. At 16 different stations, the children learned everything worth knowing about the tuber. There were exciting facts, creative workshops and even a tasting of chips. This varied approach not only showed the students the culinary possibilities of the potato, but also their cultural and historical importance.

The highlight of this educational adventure was the final potato festival. Here the children could show what they had learned. Together they prepared a banquet from their own harvest. Pellk potatoes with sour cream dip, herbal salt, butter and cheese stood on the table. The pride of being able to enjoy a grown grown was noticeable in the air and created an unforgettable memory for everyone involved.
