Warning Ukrainian experts: cable -controlled drones as a new threat

The war strategies in Ukraine develop rapidly. Recently, experts have been alarming that Russia is increasingly using cable-controlled FPV drones. This new technology has proven to be extremely precise, and since the first discoveries in February, as a rubble of such a drone, the threat has grown. Summer observations of drone flights have been dismissed as "experiments", but reality shows that technology is now serious challenges for the Ukrainian defense forces.

FPV drones that are controlled with radio are susceptible to interference signals that can interfere with their communication. In contrast, cable -controlled drones enjoy a decisive advantage: you do not need a radio channel. This fact makes them almost resistant to electronic interference measures, because neither a warning recipient nor classic misery can record or impair them.

The beginnings of the cable -directed technologies go back to World War II. Since the late 1950s, cable-controlled armor defense rockets have established themselves, which enable the bullet to be controlled during the flight. This technique has essential advantages, as radio disorders that could be caused by enemy devices are excluded. The use of such systems makes it easier for the armed forces to coordinate several ammunition units at the same time in a confined space.

The most famous examples of cable -controlled rockets include the hot, town and Milan. With the Bill 2000, the Austrian Armed Forces also uses a platform based on such a technology. The relevance of these systems is now evident in the Ukrainian warfare, where a cable-controlled FPV drone has hit a Leopard 2 tank, which makes it clear that their reach and efficiency increase alarming.

The fact that the ranges of the cable -controlled systems are constantly increasing is particularly worrying. An FPV drone has already been demonstrated, which made a distance of nine kilometers. Chinese dealers now even offer components with which ranges of up to twenty kilometers are possible. This represents new challenges for the defense strategies of Ukraine, since the more effective monitoring and defense against the new threat is necessary.

Many countries, including Germany, check the use of cable -controlled drones. The Highcat company is working on experimental models that may also be used in conflicts in future use. The current trend in warfare shows that the technologies are developing rapidly and constant adaptability on the part of the defense forces is required.

Developments in the field of drone technology raise a variety of questions, in particular with regard to the environment, ethical considerations and the strategies in the military area. While technological progress is enormous, it remains to be seen how the affected nations will react to these challenges. The importance of the cable-controlled FPV drones in the current conflict will certainly continue to increase in the coming months, and Ukraine remains on alert.
