Darmzentrum Reutte: A year full of success in cancer

In the Reutte district, a intestinal center was founded in the district hospital a year ago, which has been very well received by the patients since then. Due to the bundling of specialist competencies and resources, the intestinal center offers comprehensive services in provision, diagnostics, treatment and therapy of intestinal diseases. The medical management emphasizes that the previous results prove to be extremely successful.

From July 2023 to June 2024, a total of 514 colonoscopies were carried out in the center, which corresponds to an increase of ten percent compared to the previous year. Particular attention is paid to the high success rate in the discovery of adenomes, i.e. benign tumors in the intestine. Over 55 percent of the intestinal mirrors carried out led to this diagnosis, whereby the Austrian average is only around 27 percent.

low complication rates and modern techniques

In the past twelve months, 34 patients have had to remove parts of the intestine, whereby a minimally invasive, laparoscopic intervention was carried out in 23 cases. This method only requires small skin incisions that are carried out using a camera. The district hospital in Reutte records an overall lower complication rate compared to other facilities, which is attributed to comprehensive patient education before the interventions and advanced technologies to check the intestinal blood circulation during the operations.

Wolfgang Schlosser, the center of medical and surgeon in the center, comments: "Last year we managed to further improve important key figures in several areas." Patrick Loidl, the second medical director and internist, also emphasizes the close cooperation not only within the house, but also with external specialists and resident doctors. He emphasizes that the team acts professionally and technologically at the level of large hospitals.

It is also particularly positive that the intestinal cancer prevention of the internal department of the hospital has received the seal of approval of the Austrian Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ÖGGH) for the third time. This shows the high quality of the preventive examinations offered in the intestinal center.

The successes of the intestinal center are a sign of the growing importance of specialist centers in healthcare, which, through specialization and the latest technology, offer the patient's best possible treatment and pension offers. Those responsible for the district hospital are confident that this positive trend will continue in the future. For more information on this topic, see the current reporting on tirol.orf .
