New direct bus between Innsbruck and East Tyrol: More seats from December

From December 15, 2024, rail traffic on the Pustertal route between Fortezza and Brunico will be suspended for a whole year due to extensive construction work. These measures affect the Italian railway network and result in many passengers having to switch to alternative means of transport. Against the background of these changes, the Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT) will strengthen the direct bus connection between Innsbruck and East Tyrol in order to meet increasing demand.

The survey from June 2024 clearly shows that there is high demand for connections between Innsbruck and East Tyrol, especially on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Therefore, the number of double-decker buses will be increased to three buses heading towards East Tyrol on Fridays at 6:35 p.m. On Sundays at 5:45 p.m. there are even four buses that travel from Lienz to Innsbruck. This corresponds to an increase in seating capacity by a total of 160 seats per week.

Expanded bus connections

Because of the expected large number of passengers, Regional Mobility Councilor René Zumtobel emphasized that the direct bus will play an even more important role during the rail disruption between East and North Tyrol. The adjustments show that public transport connections are being positioned as an efficient travel option. Especially on busy travel days, when the A13 Brenner motorway is often affected by traffic jams, buses are rerouted via the Felbertauern Tunnel. An additional bus will be used to pick up passengers along the route in Lienz-Sillian.

These developments are critical to meeting the needs of commuters and travelers who rely on these important connections. The VVT is actively working to overcome the challenges of rail irregularities and provide passengers with a comfortable and reliable alternative.
