Bigband Jazzwecan: With a new line-up in the Christmas special 2024

The big band jazzwecan is back and that with fresh wind and new talents. After a short setback due to the departure of essential members, the band is now on stage again. The loss of the musical director Martin Lang and his wife Verena, who had strongly shaped the ensemble since 2018, was particularly striking. The bassist Jakob Ranacher, who had to leave the band due to his studies in Vienna, also leaves a large gap. Despite these challenges, the members of the big band jumped into the breach. After a short phase of uncertainty, the group was able to quickly get new creative minds on board. Michael Taschler, a jazz trombonist with a comprehensive experience, took over the musical direction. Johanna Kis is now inspiring on the vocal front, while Markus Stotter am bass on the foundation of the band. The new occupations made three successful concerts in Lienz and Winklern in the summer of 2024, which captivated the audience.

Another highlight of the big band Jazzwecan is the diverse commitment to young jazz. The band is pleased to welcome Leonie Waldner and Lorenz Kurzthaler as new members at the old saxophone. The new concert season is opened with a special highlight. On December 15, 2024, a “Christmas Special” will take place in the parish church, which will be performed by Christmas classics from American and European jazz literature. The well-known voices of singer Judith Goritschnig and Borg student Josef Mair will enrich the performance.

On the anticipation of the Christmas season, the big band will also offer an alternative advent calendar: from December 1, 2024, a title from the new CD will be published on common streaming services every two days.
