Gardens for nature: 18 awards in the Kufstein district

In the country house in Innsbruck, the nature-in-garden badges were awarded, an event that recognized the excellent efforts by hobby gardeners: inside in Tyrol. This year, 98 gardens from all Tyrolean districts were awarded, including 18 from the Kufstein district. This tradition not only promotes the beauty of the gardens, but also the habitat for the domestic flora and fauna.

The Nature Initiative in the Garden aims to make gardens environmentally conscious. This ensures that our little animal friends, such as hedgehogs and butterflies, can live in the gardens. Tyrol's nature conservation state council, René Zumtobel, expressed his enthusiasm for the growing commitment of the gardeners: inside in the region. "No matter whether a large garden or a small balcony - natural gardening is possible for everyone," says Zumtobel. A central criterion is to avoid chemical fertilizers and the promotion of domestic plants to create a diverse ecosystem.

diverse educational offers

The Tyrolean Education Forum organizes the Natur-in Garden Initiative and offers comprehensive training courses and workshops for interested gardeners: inside. In the first few months of 2024, 82 events were already taking place, which deal with topics such as vegetable cultivation and tree care. These activities strengthen the knowledge of natural garden design and promote environmentally conscious thinking in the population.

Another aspect of the initiative is the inclusion of communities. 44 municipalities have already participated and have made a contribution to more biodiversity with over 25,000 square meters of natural areas. Matthias Karadar, head of nature in the garden, emphasizes how important these green corridors are: "They enable insects, birds and hedgehogs, to hike back and forth between protected habitats and thus strengthen the genetic diversity in our animal world." Interested parties can find many useful information and practical tips on natural garden design on the website www.naturimgarten.tirol. The badges are attached to the gardeners in order to make the success of the gardening efforts visible and to promote awareness of ecologically sustainable practices.

More details about the excellent gardens and the owners, such as Christian Zangerl from Wörgl, are also interesting and underline the diversity and creativity of the gardeners: inside in Tyrol. It remains exciting how the network will develop in the coming years.
