Fascinating sound trip: The Necks inspire in Kufstein
Kurturgau Live review: The Australian band The Necks gave an unforgettable concert on Sunday evening at the Kufstein State Music School. Her appearance was not only varied, but also a real sound trip that captivated the audience. The magical atmosphere that this band created visibly inspired the audience.
In the middle of a variety of sounds, the audience suddenly lost themselves in music and did not even notice how time had passed. Ten minutes in the first session you found that you had not only stayed in the room, but also dipped into another dimension of the sounds. In a hypnotic state, the band created a kind of musical strudel that would have been tied up, even if you hadn't been present.
The artists and their interaction
The Necks, consisting of Chris Abrahams on the piano, Tony Buck to the drums and Lloyd Swanton on the double bass, have been playing together since 1987, which is clearly shown in their harmonious interaction. Their ability to communicate almost telepathically ensures that you often close your eyes and concentrate completely on the music. Abrahams even play with his back to his bandmates and seems to be deeply immersed in his own game as if the outer world does not exist.
The concert began with subtle and lyrical melodies that put the audience into a meditative state. With a few, carefully set tones on the bass and gentle strokes at the drums, they showed an atmosphere of calm. The tonal changes happened creeping, while the energy slowly built up and the bass began to pulsate without becoming hectic. This slow compression of sounds created an impressive acoustic experience.
The second half of the concert accepted a more dynamic direction and was more oriented towards percussion. Despite the complete improvisation, which did not need any previous arrangements, the musicians again managed to take the audience on a musical journey. The flourishing energy that the band radiated by masterfully demonstrated her remarkable talent in the art of improvisation.
The concert by The Necks in Kufstein was an impressive testimony about the strength and possibilities of improvised music. The evening did not end with a loud final chord, but left the audience in a thoughtful amazement at the deep sounds they had experienced together.
The author particularly dedicated this review to the Croatian music lover Baba, who once recommended The Necks and remains indelible to music, even if his life ended shortly afterwards.
