Bus stop expansion in Wörgl: residents complain about a lack of parking space

in the floor settlement, more precisely in the area of Moosweg, a planned expansion of a bus stop causes great sensation and resentment among the residents. The reason: With the expansion, the parking spaces for visitors are eliminated, which leads to considerable difficulties. Arnold Steiner, a long -time resident of the settlement, reports on the frustrating situation: "It cannot be that our visitors now have to park in Wörgl and drive to us with the city bus." This problem has existed for about half a year, and there is no more public parking offer nearby.

The roots of the problem can be attributed directly to the planned enlargement of the Moosweg City Bus stop. In the past, the residents could easily park their vehicles because there was enough space for it. Steiner remembers:

"Before that there was enough space to park. We were able to stand directly on the wall and the Citybus always came over."

But the current planning ensures a loss of these parking facilities. Local residents who still use places are now even checked by the police - some have already received criminal tickets of up to 50 euros.

reactions of the residents

The consequences of the changes are devastating for many residents. Some even had to adapt their front gardens to do justice to official requirements: "My neighbor had to cut his hedges, another remove his perennials," complains Steiner. These sudden changes are by no means popular and understandably triggered trouble.

Steiner is particularly frustrated because despite multiple attempts to get in touch with Mayor Michael Riedhart, he was unable to get any help. In his answer, the mayor emphasized that the matter was in the hands of the traffic officer. Steiner is convinced:

"Every citizen should have the right to get an appointment with the mayor."

He also criticizes that such problems did not occur under the previous mayor Hedi Wechner.

With the aim of finding a solution, Steiner suggested to move the stop a few meters to get the parking spaces. Transport officer Hubert Aufschnaiter initially showed understanding, but later rejected the idea. Despite his initial approval, the decision was made that laying was not possible. Steiner reports:

"The traffic officer first said that it sounds plausible, but ultimately the cancellation came."

traffic officer sees no solution

Aufschnaiter sees no scope for changes in the parking situation in this area. In his view, the current position of the bus stop has "an ideal location". Laying is not only unfavorable, but simply not implementable. When testing Steiner's proposal, Aufschnaiter found:

“Firstly, the parking space would then be partly on the bottom of private house communities, and they would also protrude half into the street.”

The traffic officer's argument is clear: there is a lack of space for new parking spaces without significantly disturbing the flow of traffic. He explains that the community cannot create new parking facilities without endangering public access.

"We need at least between ten and twelve meters as a holding area",

he says and points out that planned changes to the parking situation, can be understandable, but ultimately cannot be realized. The residents still hope for a solution to the difficult parking situation that was created by the expansion of the bus stop.
