Community project in the Pillersee Valley: Rescue of rare plant species
In the municipalities of Wadring, Fieberbrunn and St. Ulrich, committed citizens of the Pillersee valley campaign for the preservation of endangered plant species. You will receive support from the Tyrolean environmental salary, which is at your side with this important project. The initiative aims to promote the regional biodiversity that has decreased sharply in recent years.
In the past, many domestic plant species such as pigeon cabiosis or the keel-huche were widespread, but today they have become rare. In order to counteract this, a group of volunteers has come together, who are devoted to the protection of these plants, which is mostly threatened by the extermination. To do this, collect local seeds and bring them out in suitable areas to design new areas with species -rich vegetation.
a common goal: preserve biodiversity
The motivation of those involved is diverse, but it all combines a deep appreciation for domestic flora. Teresa Müllauer, the project coordinator for the Tyrolean Unterland, noted: "The community is in the foreground. That means that all decisions are made by the group itself." The volunteers have already collected numerous valuable types of seeds, including the real Betonie, the Näurel-Dlockenflume, the great Schillergrass, the meadow marches and many more.
Part of the project includes the creation of six special areas in the region, which are intended to serve as a “citizen biotopes”. These sites are not only important for the preservation of the plants, but also to sensitize the public. Two projects have already been implemented in September: an area in St. Ulrich next to the sports field and two traffic islands in Watring. Tables are set up at these locations that provide information about the importance of biodiversity.
The Pillersee Valley is one of six regions in Tyrol that actively create such biodiversity kicking stones. These measures are financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. The volunteers hope that their efforts not only protect nature, but also to sensitize the community to the beauties and the value of domestic plants.
