Ski jumping crisis: Goldberger warns of dangerous dominance by Austria!
The Four Hills Tournament will be overshadowed by the dominance of Austrian ski jumpers, which continues to be the focus of current discussions. Ski jumping icon Andreas Goldberger, who won the prestigious tour twice, said in a current report by ZDF Concern about this development. Goldberger emphasizes that in the long term it is not good for the sport of ski jumping if a single nation assumes a dominant role for years.
The 52-year-old expert warns: “The dominance of one nation in ski jumping is harmful to the sport in the long term.” He goes on to say that more diversity of nations is needed to maintain interest and momentum in ski jumping. In skiing, however, countries such as Switzerland and Norway are currently showing dominant performances, but this does not lead to complaints from Austrian athletes.
Current ranking and achievements
Before the third tournament competition in Innsbruck, three Austrian jumpers, Daniel Tschofenig, Stefan Kraft and Jan Hörl, are at the top of the overall ranking. Goldberger mentions that in the current World Cup season only athletes from the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and German jumpers have each achieved six individual victories. It is Stefan Kraft who won the last major title for Austria. The last noticeable dominance of the Austrians in ski jumping dates back to the mid-2010s. ÖSV's last tour victory was won by Stefan Kraft in the 2014/15 season. Although the Austrian team became Olympic champions in 2022, the last team gold title at the World Championships was twelve years ago Eurosport reported.
