Giant artery according to the FPÖ judgment: Daily press mocks the freedom!
In the dispute between the satirical magazine "Tagesspresse" and the Freedom of Austria (FPÖ) around the misleading use of the FPÖ logo, there are new developments. Almost two years ago, the satirical medium sent around 500 letters to Lower Austrian inns. These letters addressed a fictitious tavern bonus, which was but was bound to certain criteria.
The letters were provided with the logo of the FPÖ Lower Austria, which led to a legal discussion. This ended in front of the Supreme Court (OGH), which in his judgment decided in favor of the FPÖ. The OGH found that the "daily press" acted misleadingly through the use of the official logo.
judgment and follow
The judgment, which was delivered on February 6, stipulates that the "daily press" has to cover the process costs of over 25,000 euros. In addition, the magazine must publish the verdict in two media, specifically in the NÖN and the "district leaves". However, no booking for publication in the media concerned has been received to date, March 26, 2025. According to the "daily press", they interpret the judgment differently and see an error on the part of the FPÖ.
The FPÖ confirmed in an email that it will ensure compliance with the judgment. The deadline for publication ended on March 6, which led to further tensions between the parties. In a humorous reaction to the situation, the "daily press" of the Landes-FPÖ offered free German courses and an annual subscription to the magazine, which can be interpreted as a mockery about the current situation.
reactions and outlook
The Landes-FPÖ announced that it would give a written statement on the topic. In the broader discussion about the medialization of political issues, this case shows how easily public perception can be influenced by such misleading content. The conflict between satirical media and political parties raises questions about the responsibility of the media.
