East Tyrol's Schulschach: Two championship titles for Lienz at the grand finale!

Innsbruck, Österreich - On March 25, 2025, Innsbruck was the scene of the 49th Tyrolean School Chess Team Championship. Teams from all over Tyrol fought for the coveted national championship titles, while eight teams from East Tyrol demonstrated their skills and showed outstanding achievements. The event started with an attendance control at 9 a.m., followed by the first round at 9:15 a.m., as on chess results noted.

The folk school team "Lienzer Talboden" was able to continuously increase its achievements in the course of the tournament. Led by the players Peter Reiterer, Maximilian Markowitz, Markus Mayerl and Konstantin Stadler, they secured the championship title of the Tyrolean elementary schools. The team was able to convince with two draws and three victories, with Konstantin Stadler won all five games on the first board.

The Lienz grammar school was represented with two teams in the lower level. While Team 1 took fourth place after an exciting fight for moving into the federal final, Team 2 achieved third place with an almost flawless performance. A total of four East Tyrolean teams competed in the upper level, with the Lienz high school won the title. The HAK took second place.

Due to its phenomenal success, the team of the Lienz high school not only secured the national championship title, but also a ticket for the federal final. The performance during the tournament not only inspired the audience, but also the journalist: inside that could observe the competition.
