Sustainable education: Interactive excursion to the Ötztal in Humboldts
In October 2024, numerous students go on an exciting trip to the Ötztal, which is under the motto "Education for Sustainable Development in the spirit of the Humboldt Brothers". This excursion represents a central part of the "Education for Sustainable Development" initiative at the University of Innsbruck, which focuses on promoting knowledge and responsibility in the sense of sustainability
The event was designed by Sabrina Bacher from the Institute for Teacher Education and School Research and David Segat from the Institute of Geography. Participants from various disciplines, including educational sciences, geography and philosophy, took part in this multi -day course in order to research the complex relationships between people and nature. The holistic understanding of nature of Alexander von Humboldt served as the basis for the discussions about the development of natural concepts and sustainable practices.
interdisciplinary approaches and innovative didactics
A key goal of this course was to reflect on the thinking and behaviors of the students based on innovative didactic concepts based on the university didactic framework of Louis. This includes learning critical, creative and ethical thinking in order to make responsible decisions in the context of the current environmental problem. These approaches reflect Wilhelm from Humboldt's ideas about education, which emphasize that education is more than just giving knowledge; It is intended to promote the development of a responsible and active citizen.
A special highlight of the sustainability week, which takes place from November 11th to 15th, 2024, will be the poster exhibition in the Ágnes-Heller-Haus. Here the students present their creative insights and experiences from the excursion. On Thursday, November 14th, there will also be a public presentation that is open to everyone interested without being necessary. These events invite the public to deal with the topics of sustainability and education and to promote dialogue.
As part of this initiative, content is not only conveyed, but also specific skills are developed that are crucial for future teachers and specialists. The interdisciplinary exchange between the students of various disciplines also promotes a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable development. In this sense, the excursion remains an important step in the training of future leaders in an increasingly complex world.
