Large search in Austria: Roland D. stays on the run

In Austria, the search for the Roland D., which is considered highly dangerous, is in full swing. The 56-year-old is suspected of having killed two people in the Mühlviertel on Monday, October 28th, including a mayor. Since then, the whole country has been on alert, and the police mobilize massive resources to grasp the fleeting.

On Wednesday, October 30th, intensive police operations were carried out in Burgenland and in a hospital in Wels. Citizens had set up emergency calls because they thought they had seen the man they were looking for. Despite comprehensive searches and the use of hundreds of police officers, these missions were unsuccessful.

Investigations in response to sightings

On Thursday morning, October 31, the State Police Directorate Tyrol reported that a witness at the main train station in Innsbruck had observed a suspected criminal in a departing train. After a comprehensive control that affected 80 passengers, it turned out that it was a false alarm. Video recordings confirmed that the person was not on board, but the police remain vigilant.

The rational concern for Roland D. is not unfounded. According to the investigation, the suspect is armed with at least two rifles and a handgun. As a hunter, he is well familiar with the region, especially the forest areas and the steep Danube gorges. This makes the search more difficult because it may act in an area that he knows very well.

possible “death list” and other threats

A disturbing aspect of the investigation is the possibility that Roland D. leads a kind of “death list” on which other potential victims could be. 50 people were therefore placed under police protection. The police remain careful on this matter and do not announce any precise details for determining reasons. An acquaintance of D. was concerned about his behavior and suspected that he will not be captured alive.

Before the tragic events, D. carried out a targeted persecution of a 64-year-old mayor from Kirchberg OB of the Danube, which was finally executed on a meadow. He later entered the unlocked house of a former police officer, in which he also fatally struck. This intensification of violence has further tightened the already tense situation.

The continuous investigation and large -scale missions show the constant endeavor to the police to ensure the security of the citizens and to hold the fleeting amok hunter responsible. While the search for Roland D. continues, the country remains in unrest and concern.
