Tyrolean siren test: 99.71 % functionality convinced!

On Saturday the time had come again: the Austria-wide civil protection sample alarm took place and caused a stir throughout Tyrol. People heard the howling of the sirens and received rooting mobile phones when the functionality of the over 1,000 sirens was checked. The result was impressive: 99.71 percent of the sirens tested, which is 1,022 of 1,025, worked properly. A significant progress for the security of the population.

This test was not just a routine check. At the same time, the new population warning system AT-Alert was tested. Test warnings were sent on all mobile phones connected to a radio cell in Tyrol at 12 p.m. and at 12.45 p.m. These tests help to improve the communication channels in an emergency and to inform the population quickly.

meaning of the siren signals

It is crucial for citizens to know the different siren signals, as they have to react quickly in an emergency. According to the Civil Protection Act, there are different types of signal:

  • civil protection warning - "approaching danger!" - three -minute last tone
  • civil protection alarm - "Danger!" - one-minute up and down and decongestant howling
  • civil protection detection - “End of Danger” - one -minute consistent permanent tone

If the sirens sound, citizens should inform themselves immediately on radio, television or online. If you have a warning about AT-Alert, you can also call up recommendations for action via a link in the message.

"Our warning system is an important instrument to warn the population in an emergency and to communicate initial information about possible dangers," said Security Councilor Astrid Mair. The regular review of these systems is crucial, since there is no time for repairs in the event of a crisis. Mair also emphasized the need that every household has adequately provided. In general, everyone should be able to get around without shopping and without electricity.

tidal wave warning also tested

In addition to the siren tests, Tiwag's flood wave warning was also checked. At the Sellrain-Silz and Kaunertal power plants, the signals "flood wave alarm" and "tidal wave warning" were triggered properly. This shows the comprehensive preparation for different emergency scenarios in the region.

The civil protection day not only tested, but the population is also to be actively reminded of the importance of warning signals and emergency stocks. Mair explained that the day also serves to point out the necessary steps to self -provision. "We all have to contribute to increasing our own security," she said.

Overall, today's civil protection day shows that the security situation in Tyrol is taken seriously and that the necessary infrastructure works well. The positive results of the tests vote optimistically for the future and strengthen confidence in the warning systems of the region.
